Black Soldier Fly (BSF) plant is a rising industry as a sustainable method of waste management and protein production. In the BSF cultivation process, the vibrating sieve are primarily for separating larvae, frass (larvae excrement), and unprocessed material. Below is an overview of sieving machines used in this application:

BSF treatment

Ⅰ. Larvae Separation:

Vibrating sieve help separate BSF larvae from frass and residue material.

Typically, the larvae are larger than frass, making it easy to separate them with mesh screens of appropriate sizes.

The recommended mesh size for this process is 2~5 mm.

(The final mesh size will be based on unprocessed material, cultivation days and larvae size.)

The reference capacity for single machine is 100kg/h (minimum model), and 5 ton/h (bigger model).

Ⅱ. Frass Collection:

Frass is a valuable by-product used as an organic fertilizer.

Sieving machines collect it separately to ensure it is free of impurities.

Pre-processing Input Material:

Vibrating sieve is used to remove large or unwanted debris from organic waste before it is fed to the larvae.

Post-harvest Cleaning:

Ensures harvested larvae are free from organic residue or frass before further processing.

Features of Sieving Machines for BSF Applications

Mesh Size: Adjustable to accommodate larvae at various stages of growth.

Common mesh sizes: 2–5 mm for BSF larvae separation.

Vibrating sieve material: Made from stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant materials to handle moist, acidic environments.

Capacity: Machines range from small-scale (manual or semi-automatic) to industrial-scale setups with continuous processing.

Capacity examples: 100–500 kg/hour for small setups; up to 5,000 kg/hour for industrial systems.

Ⅲ. Vibrating Sieve categories for BSF plant:

Vibrating sieve uses vibrations to sift materials through wire sieves.

Suitable for continuous operation.

  1. Rotary Vibrating Sieve

A rotary vibrating sieve is mainly suitable for small capacity processing for separating materials by size.

  1. Linear Vibrating Sieves or Rectangular Vibrating Sieve:

Linear vibrating sieve is more suitable for bigger capacity processing for frass cleaning and larvae sorting. It also allows simultaneous separation of different size fractions (e.g., larvae, frass, and waste).

Ⅳ. Advantages of vibrating sieve in BSF planting.

Efficiency: Reduces manual labor in separation tasks.

Productivity: Handles large volumes of material quickly.

Cleanliness: Ensures high-quality larvae and frass outputs.

Scalability: Available in sizes to suit small farms and industrial-scale operations.

Screen Mesh: Stainless steel, resistant to rust and wear.

Noise Level: Low-noise models preferred for worker comfort.

Hygienic Design: Easy-to-clean components to prevent contamination.
